Job Summary and Requirements

Who we are…

At the Department of Economic Development, our mandate is to develop a sustainable and competitive Yukon economy to enrich the quality of life of all Yukoners; to pursue economic initiatives with a shared vision of prosperity, partnerships, and innovation; and to forge partnerships with First Nations in the economic development of the territory.

From advising small businesses to attracting investment, we connect our clients with the right people and resources to turn good ideas into reality. We provide analysis and insight that inform smart decision-making and assist clients as they access government supports. We are here to help businesses, industries, and communities define their goals, envision the future of the Yukon economy, and find a path forward.

This opportunity…

The Innovation, Industry, and Business Development Branch supports economic growth and diversification throughout the Yukon. We promote strategic economic development in industries such as mining, resources, clean energy, communications, technology, and other sectors of the knowledge economy, and we facilitate innovation and entrepreneurship in the private sector. In partnership with our network of business support providers and industry associations, we help businesses attract investment, reach new markets, and innovate by building on the unique strengths of the Yukon.

Senior Business Development Advisors support the overall growth and development of the Yukon economy. Working independently, under broad, general direction from the Director, these positions provide analytical, advisory, and other services in support of Yukon industry sectors. Within the context of an economic development strategy, the positions work with industry associations, innovation partners, inter-jurisdictional peers, and individual businesses to determine challenges and to identify resources and solutions that will strengthen and expand industry sectors and individual businesses. The Advisors also initiate, manage and coordinate government's participation in various strategic projects related to economic development.

This position will not have a specific sector focus, but it is expected that the successful candidate will be involved in building and maintaining relationships with business associations, facilitating internal/external trade missions, analyzing funding proposals, and helping to develop strategic projects throughout the Yukon.
