Job Summary and Requirements

This competition is open to all candidates including those who have certified through the Yukon government's Assistant Deputy Minister registry. A hiring preference will apply for qualified candidates of Canadian Indigenous ancestry, with a priority for qualified Yukon First Nation candidates. This initiative is in support of Yukon government's goal for a representative public service.

This is a full-time permanent position working 75 hours biweekly.

At Tourism and Culture, we are a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to the Yukon's vibrant tourism, arts, museums, heritage, historic sites, and archival communities and their contributions to the Yukon's quality of life. The Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Initiatives, provides critical support and advice to the Deputy Minister, plays a key leadership role in developing and implementing strategic directions for the Department of Tourism and Culture, is responsible for the leadership and direction of the department's policy and communication functions, and collaborates with other departments on key government priorities.

Through visionary leadership, political acumen, resilience and a willingness to take calculated risks, you are able to integrate and operationalize significant and fast-paced change. You model appropriate behaviors and promote a highly engaged workforce through organizational commitment, supportive relationships, self-awareness and ethical decision-making.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how your education, work, and/or volunteer experience and related duties align with the essential qualifications listed below. Ensure a month/year format is used throughout your resume. Please note that selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Strong executive-level experience in the public sector;
  • Theoretical base in leadership and public sector administration, including strategic planning, human resources, and financial management;
  • Experience providing strategic leadership in the management of diverse and complex program areas, leading teams and working collaboratively across government and externally;
  • Extensive managerial experience in the leading change management and/or transformation initiatives;
  • Extensive senior level experience working within policy, communications and/or corporate services;
  • Extensive senior level experience working in program delivery; and administration of funding;
  • Experience within the tourism, museum, culture, marketing and/or heritage sector would be an asset.
