Position Summary

Are you passionate about designing and maintaining cutting-edge technology solutions? The City of Regina is seeking two talented Infrastructure Specialist to lead the way in managing our ever-evolving computing environment. One role will be focused on Virtualization and Server, and the other will be Network focused.

In this dynamic role, you'll have the opportunity to research, design, implement, and maintain innovative technology solutions tailored to the City's diverse business needs. Whether it's virtualization, networking, cloud technologies, identity management, storage, or servers, you'll take ownership of specific focus areas, spearheading projects and solving complex challenges.

Your expertise will ensure seamless operations, robust security, and proactive troubleshooting across our digital infrastructure. Reporting to the Coordinator of Infrastructure, you'll play a key role in driving innovation and delivering reliable technology solutions that make a real impact.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • At the discretion of the direct Supervisor or Manager, this position may be assigned, for a defined period of time, to a specific technology focus area(s) not limited to Virtualization, Network, Storage and/or Server and will be the main specialist responsible for projects and tasks within that area of technology.
  • Responsible for operational security including vulnerability management, patching of software and systems, rights management, authentication and authorization.
  • Act as the main technical resource for Infrastructure in regard to the area(s) of focus assigned.
  • Act as a technical resource on Infrastructure related projects containing area(s) of focus using project management principles and processes to plan, deliver and provide status on work, and ensures adherence to Technology's project management methodology. May also be expected to lead or assist with project management on various projects including completion of project related tasks and coordination of project resources.
  • Required to supervise other staff members in relation to project and task assignments.
  • Participate in discussions relating to technology planning; monitor new technology developments in area(s) of focus in order to make operational and tactical recommendations for improving the City's computing environment.
  • Conduct technical research on area(s) of focus for upgrades and additional components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with existing systems.
  • Recommend related solutions for short, medium, and long-range projects.
  • Develop, document and implement procedures and standards that ensure successful integration of assigned area(s) of focus into the computing environment.
  • Design, install, secure, upgrade, patch and maintain technical infrastructure to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Develop timelines and budgets for assigned work, monitor timelines and report regularly, to immediate supervisor, the progress and status of all assignments.
  • Demonstrate leadership and initiative in sharing technical expertise with other team members and contribute to client's effective use of technology through leadership, guidance and training as required.
  • Participate in, support and follow Corporate Customer Service, Service Management, and Asset Management frameworks, strategies and policies.
  • Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
  • Ensure that related provincial and federal legislation, City Council's bylaws, policies and practices are complied with.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Key Qualifications

  • Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through a two (2) year diploma in Computer Engineering Technology or a university degree in Computer Science and/or four (4) to six (6) years of experience in a senior level role responsible for the design and implementation of the various area(s) of focus.
  • Experience supervising staff on assigned projects and tasks is an asset.
  • Certifications in Microsoft, Linux, virtualization, cybersecurity, networking, project management or ITIL would be an asset.
  • Ability to prepare and conduct presentations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to create and document technical information, and operating standards and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well with and communicate to all levels internal and external to the organization.
  • Ability to provide day to day guidance and workload management direction to team members.
  • Ability to manage and supervise staff assigned to projects and tasks.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, and work with a considerable amount of independence demonstrating strong analysis, problem solving, decision-making and strategic action planning capacity.
  • Ability to develop solutions to complex technical problems under pressure.
  • Knowledge and experience designing, installing, administering and troubleshooting various server and network infrastructures, virtualization, security, wireless, mobility, collaboration technologies and cloud initiatives.
  • Knowledge and experience with project management duties related to Information Technology projects
  • Knowledge and experience applying security principals and practices.

Working Conditions

  • This position may be on call.
