The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) is a supra-municipal organization with jurisdiction over the territory of Québec located north of the 55th parallel. The KRG is currently recruiting a strong leader with demonstrated organizational skills to work in Kuujjuaq, in the capacity of:

 

DIRECTOR,

RENEWABLE RESOURCES, ENVIRONMENT, LANDS AND PARKS DEPARTMENT

(Permanent – Full-time)

 

Reporting to the Director General, the Director of the Renewable Resources, Environment, Lands and Parks Department is responsible for overseeing the KRG’s mandates related to the management of renewable resources, environmental programs, lands and regional planning as well as the development and operations of Nunavik Parks. More specifically, the Director is responsible for:

 

  • Overseeing all initiatives on environmental issues, local and regional land use planning as well as the development and operation of Nunavik parks;
  • Planning, directing and supervising all activities related to programs on Inuit hunting, fishing and trapping support, wildlife conservation;
  • Liaising with governments, agencies including the Kativik Environmental Advisory Committee, northern villages, and other regional and local organizations, on issues related to the department mandates;
  • Ensuring the KRG is compliant with all applicable federal and provincial legislation;
  • Managing and following up on the departmental budget;
  • Participating in the preparation and negotiation of funding agreements with governments and different public bodies for all projects and programs related to the mandates under her/his responsibility;
  • Overseeing the activities departmental staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in administration or in a related field (Tourism, Environmental studies, etc.) exceptionally, a combination of relevant work experience and education may be considered;
  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience with a multidisciplinary team in the field of renewable resource or environmental management;
  • Work experience in a cross-cultural environment, preferably with native communities, will be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated management, planning, problem solving and decision making skills;
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to build and lead a team;
  • Results oriented, demonstrated ability to work under pressure and ability to get involved at a more detailed level, as is necessary;
  • Oral and written communication skills in Inuktitut are essential, and ability to write and speak in one the two languages: English or in French;
  • Experience in negotiating agreements with governments and agencies will be considered an asset;
  • Availability to travel within Nunavik and outside the region on a regular basis.

Salary:   Minimum  128 903$/year – Maximum 177 244$/year

Cost of living differential: minimum of $ 8,500 per year;

Food allowance: minimum of $ 4,216 per year;

Annual leave trips: minimum of three trips;

Pension plan: 8% employer contribution;

Vacation: 30 days per year;

Statutory holidays: 20 days including 10 days at Christmas holidays.
