DUTIES:
Reporting to the Deputy City Planner (Growth), this position will be responsible to apply acquired experience in a shared responsibility for the planning, design and construction of open spaces such as parks, plazas, trail systems, streetscapes, etc., and how such spaces interface with private property; Facilitates the implementation of Windsor's Community Strategic Plan and Official Plan policies, especially in the areas of urban design, public art, signage, by articulating through oral, written and visual measures the merits and potential of built and natural attributes in private and public developments undertaken in the community; Helps to build community capacity advancing the esteem held for the quality of the municipality's overall attractiveness and its relationships to health and prosperity of the community. Develops and documents guidelines and standards to achieve optimal functioning and physical appearance of the community; Develops and participates in public consultation and other outreach exercises which cultivate the values ascribed to "civic image" in Windsor's Official Plan; Investigates matters of strategic and/or systemic significance pertaining to buildings and infrastructure installations in the municipality and their relationships to parks, public spaces, and natural areas and reports on findings in planning studies, planning policy development and implementation, and in evaluations of development proposals; Develops and administers term projects advancing strategic community design and development initiatives; Assists in the preparation of design concepts for and/or design review of selected municipal capital projects; Researches emerging trends and best practices in all dimensions of urban and environmental design; Monitors performance of various municipal urban design and open space projects according to adopted criteria; Provides expert evidence before the OMB and other tribunals; Leads, participates in, and advises multidisciplinary project teams. Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation's Health and Safety Program. Will perform other related duties as required.
