Here is what you will be doing:

As part of the Communications and Engagement Portfolio, the Senior Advisor, Provincial Issues and Emergency Management plays an integral role in coordinating and supporting the provincial management and health systems issues functions within Ontario Health. The role includes planning for health system and seasonal respiratory pressures and the successful development and implementation of projects and initiatives related to managing and responding to planned and emerging disruptions and issues affective the health system.

The incumbent possesses strong leadership and facilitation skills, leads teams, and collaborates across various internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Advisor will have strong communication and relationship management skills and will work with internal and external stakeholders to support and coordinate efforts to address complex, urgent, and evolving emergencies across the health sector.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Leadership

  • Plan, organize and participate in internal and external working groups and advisory committees, ensuring tracking of action items and follow-ups

  • Develop productive partnerships with program areas across Ontario Health and with external stakeholders and organization

  • Create and contribute to tools and resources based on best practices to identify key issues/risks, execute solutions and address challenges

  • Support a highly engaged team culture of respect, inclusiveness, learning, support and collaboration.

Project Management

  • Manage and execute high priority work plans to drive key deliverables forward and steer projects to completion and on time

  • Track, monitor and communicate project/program progress and deliverables against project plan requirements, KPIs and quality measures

  • Gather, research and consolidate information/data to provide trends, themes, recommendations and next steps for actions

  • Support the coordination of the provincial emergency management framework processes and protocols

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with portfolios across the organization to identify interdependencies and ensure alignment with broader strategies to support planning, response, and recovery

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with cross-functional teams that foster open communication and meet project and departmental objectives

  • Act as a facilitator and meaningfully engage stakeholders through a variety of methods- gather input, prepare draft documents, coordinate reviews, and approve materials

  • Engage external stakeholders including the Ministry of Health as required to advance strategic priorities and planning

Communication

  • Engage subject matter experts and leaders from across the various Ontario Health portfolios, as well as external stakeholders as required (leading informant interviews and facilitating workshops) to develop and inform strategic options and planning approaches.

  • Independently and proactively develop high-quality and compelling communication materials (presentations, memos, briefing notes, etc.)

  • Lead the preparation of presentations, speaking notes, memos and briefing notes for executives, and both internal and external audiences

Education and Experience

  • An undergraduate degree is required

  • Masters degree in public health, health studies, health administration, social sciences or a related field preferred

  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant work experience in issues/emergency management, communications and/or stakeholder engagement

  • Experience working in a large-scale organization, public sector and/or healthcare experience highly preferred

  • Experience in managing resources and working across teams to deliver on business plans and strategies

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience supporting and managing strategic projects and initiatives within an organization

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to present complex concepts clearly and effectively (i.e. ability to connect with diverse audiences)

  • Detailed-oriented with strong problem solving, critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with demonstrated experience engaging and building relationships and alignment among diverse stakeholders

  • Knowledge of health system stakeholders and how the health system works in Ontario

  • Ability to work flexibly, under pressure, as part of a team and independently and manage multiple work streams

  • Sound judgement, discretion, and decision-making ability

  • A growth mindset and willingness to learn from others

  • Sound leadership skills with the ability and experience to work across all levels of the organization

  • Ability to complete tasks, as assigned, in a timely manner with high-quality results

  • Commitment to customer service

  • Proficient within Office365

  • Bilingualism is an asset
