Contributes to the overall success of the Release Engineering / Canadian Banking Unit in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The Release Manager is primarily responsible for successful production releases of software projects and owns the overall release management environment. This position works closely with external and internal projects and support teams to meet technical and security requirements, and fully owns the Operational Readiness process.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Define, design and own overall release management environment, working closely with other engineering departments on production releases and facilitating resolution on impacts on various projects and enhancements.
  • Lead and ensure that project teams meet various technical quality gates in our entire delivery pipeline, which includes being the owner of the operational Readiness process, working closely with the project teams to navigate through it.
  • Liaise between the project teams and other counterparts such as security, network, Cloud platform teams, Akamai to ensure Operational Readiness sign-offs requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with Delivery Leads and Senior Development Managers to effectively forecast and plan release projects, by providing input for decision making and timelines.
  • Effectively maintain APM (Application Portfolio Management) for the Digital Banking Unit owned by applications.
  • Effectively communicate release status and appropriately escalate impediments/risks.
  • Investigate ad-hoc issues, propose different options, and drive issue resolution.
  • Coordinate and run planned and unplanned production implementations.
  • Facilitate problem-solving discussions and general communications between the release management team and other teams such as business, infrastructure, support, and development.
  • Lead the improvement and development of our release practices by providing valuable inputs and suggestions as to what works well and what can be done better.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment of information sharing and team cooperation.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • 3+ years of experience involving in technical project management in an IT organization.
  • Have experience with traditional waterfall and agile SDLC, involving Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.
  • Anticipate potential problems in all aspects and will proactively create mitigation plans based on day-to-day communication & observations.
  • Able to simplify complex situations and navigate ambiguity.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and able to communicate accordingly with a broad audience.
  • Able to multi-task and work on multiple, complex initiatives concurrently.
  • Deep knowledge in release tools and practices.
