The Project Manager is an integral member of the Program and plays a key leadership role in ensuring that Ontario Health achieves its screening-related objectives in the portfolio objectives and its annual commitments to the Ministry of Health.

Reporting to the Manager, Provincial Genetics Program (PGP), the Project Manager position is an exciting and dynamic opportunity to apply your health care knowledge, research, health informatics and strong project management skills to various medium to large-scale projects/quality initiatives. The Project Manager will play an active role in special clinical projects and cross-functional initiatives supporting the Provincial Genetics Program (PGP), Digital Excellence in Health (DxH) and the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program (PLMP).

This incumbent manages complex, multi-workstream projects to an acceptable level of risk by balancing scope, time, cost and quality while maintaining a positive environment that promotes individual development and high-performance standards.

Here is what you will be doing:

The key responsibilities of this position are:

  • Planning and leading several medium to large-scale projects/quality initiatives concurrently and within timelines - including identifying and effectively communicating with relevant stakeholders, managing project documentation, driving agendas, and providing input in a collaborative setting;

  • Performing in a leadership role in various program related projects, policies, activities and initiatives. Working with various stakeholders (subject matter experts, health care providers, administrators, professional bodies) and working groups to achieve consensus;

  • Leading a project team of cross-functional team members including delegating and prioritizing work to support project success;

  • Monitoring all project deliverables to ensure successful delivery within the constraints of scope, schedule, cost and quality; identifies and manages project risks and issues; identify inter-dependencies among work stream activities and lead the project team on risks prioritization and mitigation;

  • Leveraging available data and utilizing data analysis to provide support, direction and decision making for multiple projects/initiatives;

  • Project stakeholder management - aligning project sponsors, managers, business partners and other stakeholders to achieve project outcomes;

  • Developing and presenting material for review and informational purposes using excellent written, verbal, and graphical communications skills, with ability to express complex concepts effectively;

  • Providing support and coaching to stakeholders on change management initiatives leveraging established methodologies and tools;

  • Ensuring data collection and measurement systems to identify primary and consequential KPIs to enable dashboard reporting and trending;

  • Creating new or improving existing project and portfolio management standards (including processes and tools).

  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement;

  • Performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested;

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education

  • A Master's Degree in Health Sciences; Health Administration, Health Informatics, Business Administration or related field is an asset; an undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences, Health Administration, Health Informatics, Business Administration or related field is required

Experience:

  • 5-8 years of relevant Project Management experience leading projects in a healthcare environment is required.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or actively working towards the designation is preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience working with data, clinical and IT-focused projects is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge and familiarity with clinical and laboratory genetics and/or genomic data is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience in strategy development, health services program planning and implementation, and quality improvement.

  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships, large-scale change, and system transformation.

  • Experience leading projects with multiple work streams.

  • Proven ability to work within a matrix management structure, while also successfully engaging a wide range of stakeholders in support of organizational objectives.

  • Proven ability to handle complex problems that require extensive investigation and analysis.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong planning and project management skills;

  • Experience in change management, process development and business/project management operations is preferred;

  • Ability to successfully execute on multiple large-scale, complex, high-risk projects;

  • Ability to lead staff in a project environment;

  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment;

  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management, clinicians; external healthcare organizations, and customers/vendors;

  • Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders to establish trust, credibility and respect;

  • Must be passionate about leadership, organizational health, culture, values and team development;

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a hands-on manner, adjusting to issues as needed in a dynamic work environment;

  • Ability to prioritize and effectively anticipate and respond to issues as they arise;

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills , evaluate alternatives, find solutions, and make decisions;

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills;

  • Ability to distill complex concepts by providing clarity to an executive level audience

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the capacity to engage, and a demonstrated ability to build relationships among clinicians and other stakeholders

  • Strong problem-solving, organization and facilitation skills required

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio and Excel.
