Career Opportunity

We are seeking to hire three (3) Project Controls Specialist in our Project Management Office Department.

What You Will Do

As the Project Controls Specialist, you will provide project controls expertise to develop the project cost control baseline, implement project change cost impact, calculate Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Forecast at Completion (FAC), and monitor/analyze/report for assigned projects.

You will ensure that project controls resources adhere to project cost coding structures and forecasting processes, to support the production of accurate, consistent and timely baselining, forecasting, and reporting. Also ensures project teams perform due diligence on cost data inputs provided.

You will be responsible to review the project capital cost estimate, scope of work, supporting documents and drawings; assigning appropriate project cost codes; developing the project cost baseline by mapping control account, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS).Review and understand project risk contingencies/allowances; calculate drawdown amounts and review/calculate project escalation cost.

Review contract changes, identifying project cost/schedule impacts and initiating project change notices. Review project change's to the scope of work, supporting documents and drawings and assign project cost codes to project change line items; evaluating time and cost impact of the change (when required) and calculating EAC and FAC through change-driven project forecasting.

You will also prepare project cost variance reports; performing project cost data analysis to find variance from baseline, forecast, commitment, incurred and actual cost; providing a written narrative to support the underlying reason. Prepare graphs, diagrams, and other exhibits to illustrate cost status and forecast requirements for project team. Prepare periodic project status reports in consultation with the project controls lead and project team.

What Qualification Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Construction Management, or equivalent in a related discipline, combined with specialized project controls experience in an engineering, procurement, construction management organization; or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years related experience providing project controls expertise from project inception to closure.
  • Work experience in a Project Management Office setting.
  • Experience with Ares PRISM will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of project controls principles, methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of estimating, budgeting, scheduling, baselining, forecasting and change management principles, practices and techniques
  • Data analysis with advanced MS Excel or MS Access skills
  • Good understanding of end-to-end project lifecycle and integration between functions; sound knowledge of all project phases, from project initiation, planning, executing, controlling, monitoring and closing, including budgeting and scheduling.
  • Ability to read technical (engineering) documents, design drawings/layouts, and non-technical project documents such as Project Management Plan, Business Case, Charter etc.
  • Must have effective interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (verbal and written) to interface with multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Attention to detail and ability to deal efficiently with priorities, manage time to prioritize work
  • Maintain project cost control systems
  • Effective time management to balance project work and ad-hoc requests from project team and internal stakeholders, in addition to day-to-day duties.
  • Working knowledge of Ares Prism, Primavera P6 or other similar cost management and scheduling applications
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
