As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, and we are hiring for hundreds of roles. The GO Expansion scope: new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.

We are currently looking for an EHS Advisor to join the Environment, Health, and Safety and team of the Alstom Go Expansion project. This role is located in Toronto with time allocated to the office. Schedule flexibility is required, as well as ability to travel between sites.

Purpose of the job:

This position is mainly on construction site (80%) with an administrative portion (20%).

You will ensure compliance with EHS rules on the site for both Alstom employees and Alstom contractors from due diligence and inspections (DDI), installation, to testing and commissiong on equipments and trains. You report to EHS Project Manager, and work closely with other HSE Advisors, site team supervisor, contractors, and the constructor.

The key responsibilities and accountability include but not limited to:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure the Health and Safety Management System standards are met
  • Work permit overview and reviews
  • Inspections and monitoring on-site
  • Support employees/contractors on hazard identification and risk assessment(s)
  • Coaching of supervisors on EHS subject matter
  • Broadcast EHS Induction for contractors / employees
  • JHSC Committee Facilitation
  • Safety Communications (toolboxes, safety moments/shorts, newsletters etc)
  • Accident investigation and corrective action follow up
  • Contractors Management (ex. Monitoring, Observation, and Reporting)
  • Qualification of contractor EHS documentation and monitoring
  • Emergency Preparedness measures and first aid reporting
  • Has full authority and must stop any operational activity resulting in immediate high risk to People or the Environment.

Performance measurements:

  • Documented inspections and observations
  • Total recordable KPIs (Lost time / Fatality / severe accidents)
  • Support Claims management and Modified work program
  • Health and wellbeing activities and initaitives
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Training and training hours
  • Contractor readiness
  • Safety Communications (toolboxes, newsletters, safety shorts and moments, reports)
  • Ensuring OHSA & Regulations, Standards, and Project-Specific EHS Program and requirements

Educational Requirements

  • University EHS preferred
  • Consideration of professional trade experience combined safety training and experience

Mandatory:

  • Experience between 3 and 5 years in Environment, Health & Safety
  • Experience on construction site mandatory
  • Good knowledge of computer systems Office (word, outlook etc) mandatory. Sharepoint knowledge an asset.
  • Experience in construction projects, mandatory
  • Experience in railway, an asset
  • Good written English, mandatory
  • Driving license and willingness to travel between sites, mandatory
  • Good knowledge and understanding of ISO14001, ISO45001 preferred
  • Deep knowledge of local legal requirements, mandatory
