What you'll do

Working in the IT division within Product Engineering (Legacy Modernization), the Delivery Program Manager is part of the Delivery Excellence Chapter and has accountability for the delivery at a Pod level. The Delivery Program Manager will continuously evolve the Agile capabilities of the team, focus on team dynamics, remove impediments to success, and coordinate dependencies across Pods. They play an important role in orchestrating the successful delivery of multiple squads that collectively contribute to the organization's strategic objectives. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and delivery management skills to drive collaboration and ensure the program's overall success.

  • Advises and coaches the Pod on Agile and Lean values, practices, and processes. Ensures that the Agile pod is staffed, effective, productive, and focused on the sprint goals and customer outcomes.

  • Clears the runway so that the Pod can meet the quarterly objectives, removes blockers that can not be resolved by the squad-level Scrum Masters. They will find resources and garner support to address critical roadblocks. The Delivery Program Manager will support issues that exceed the capability of a Scrum Master to address.

  • Identifies dependencies with other Pods and determines how to manage those dependencies without impacting the progress of the Pod. Likewise, works with other Pods to deliver features on which they are dependent. Creates and maintains the Pod Release Board.

  • Create metrics and tools, or ensure adoption of the Agile Centre Of Excellence metrics and tools, to measure success and recognize progress of the squads within the Pod. Has the ability to identify and utilize beneficial metrics, interpreting them and course correcting.

  • Recognizes areas of strength and improvement of the Pod by employing appropriate evaluation, coaching and development techniques for squads. The Delivery Program Manager must role-model and teach their Squads, Leaders and Scrum Masters about the combination of Lean and Agile management practices and ideologies and how to bring them to life within a Pod.

  • The Delivery Program Manager will ensure continuous improvement activities are occurring in the Squads. They will strive for continuous improvement both for self and for the Pod. They will recognize opportunities for automation and other tools & processes so that the Pod can delivery more effectively. The Delivery Program Manager will create and execute on a retrospective improvement roadmap for items that are beyond the scope of Scrum Masters, or aligned to an overall transformation, by analyzing all activities and actions happening at the Pod and Squad level that have previously been performed and finding ways to improve each process.

  • The Delivery Program Managers are responsible for facilitation of Quarterly Planning events (Big Room Planning). They must create and communicate the annual planning calendars for Sprints and Releases as well as coordinate all lead up activities to the Quarterly Planning Events while ensuring Scrum Masters are properly preparing their Squads, establishing clear signals for readiness, and summarizing the Quarterly Objectives and publishing them to provide visibility and transparency.

  • The Delivery Program Manager must create an environment that facilitates positive Squad Member health as well as provide guidance and management to all members to ensure outcomes are met.

  • Facilitates, participates, and collaborates in cross functional planning sessions to raise milestones, issues, dependencies, etc.

  • Provides a high level of relationship management, resolving conflicts and enabling discussions between stakeholders, management, co-workers and Pod members with varied interests.

  • Rigorously facilitates communication and collaboration inside and outside the Pod. Fosters close cooperation across all Pod members and encourages cross-training and support of each other.

  • Applies a structured approach to problem-solving, understands the context and impact of risks and issues, and takes real measures to get to resolution.

  • As a leader-from-within the Pod, the Delivery Program Manager will: Attend Squad stand ups, demo's, retrospectives regularly, listen to and support all teams in the identification of problems and decision-making and Think of the big picture, beyond the day-to-day activities; practice systems thinking

  • As part of the Delivery Excellence Chapter, the Delivery Program Manager contributes to agile management best practices within the enterprise to help maintain and promote agile management practices and professionalism, Provides continuous monitoring of project financials for Management oversight by leveraging various Enterprise Project Management Office tools.

What you bring

  • Delivery or software development background with education in Computer Science or similar is preferred

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with Agile

  • Certified Scrum Practitioner (CSM) or Certified Scrum Coach (CSC) or equivalent formal education in Agile is an asset.

  • Specific experience in Agile methodologies such as SAFE is an asset.

  • Knowledgeable about various Agile methodologies and experienced in coaching Scrum and Kanban teams.

  • Team Leadership through influence - experienced in assessing and driving necessary actions to improve.

  • Strong communication skills - Able to propagate information promptly, clearly, and unambiguously.

  • High levels of emotional intelligence

  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to coach and mentor all roles on a Scrum team.

  • Skilled in building relationships and navigating through organizational layers.

  • Ability to scale thinking and analysis from strategic to detail and vice versa.

  • Executive presence; strong facilitation and presentation skills.

  • Conflict resolution and effective mediation and influencing skills..

  • Knowledge of Retail Business/Technology is an asset.

  • Always questions the status quo and looks for ways to work more effectively
