We are actively seeking an Ecologist to help grow RVA's Ecological Services Team. We are looking for an effective communicator, with a positive mindset who is committed to delivering high quality work. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work alongside ecologists with significant experience, be encouraged to think outside of the box, collaborate in innovation, and help to shape the future of RVA. This is a full-time permanent opportunity.

Duties:

  • Assist multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, other ecologists and planners, on a variety of development and infrastructure projects.
  • Completing background reviews,
  • Consulting with regulatory agencies and the opportunity to participate/conduct a wide range of field investigations, including but not limited to:
    • floral inventories and vegetation community classifications;
    • fish and wildlife surveys;
    • stream assessments;
    • tree inventories;
    • wetland classification; and
    • species at risk surveys.
  • Responsible for data compilation, analysis, report writing, environmental permitting and approvals, as well as contribute to tree inventory and protection plans, restoration and landscaping.
  • Responsible for aquatic and terrestrial habitat investigations,
  • Assist in fish, mussel, and wildlife rescues on construction projects, as well as environmental monitoring during construction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ecology, Biology or Environmental Science/Management
  • A minimum of 4 - 7 years' experience in the areas of Ecology, Biology, Plant Science, or other related environmental discipline.
  • Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector/Practitioner certification or demonstrated experience are an asset.
  • ISA Certified Arborist and GIS skills are an asset.
  • Experience with targeted surveys for plants, herpetofauna, birds, fish, mussels, mammals or insects.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule.
  • Access to a personal vehicle and a valid Class G driver's license, with a clean driving record.
  • Strong oral and written communication, report writing, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous MTO RAQS certification(s) or MTO project experience are an asset.
  • Ecological Land Classification and/or Ontario Wetland Evaluation System certification or demonstrated experience are an asset.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to rise to challenges is a strong asset.
