As Technical Leader - Power Project Development & FEED, in this technical leadership role you will play a pivotal part in early development of large-scale renewables, storage, and T&D projects across Ontario and rest of Canada.

Your role will collaborate closely with Director - Power Markets-T&D, sector leaders, office and area directors to support and expand BBA's Power project services. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and execution of our exciting market segment. You will have a significant role supporting the development of national market strategy for the overall Power business.

Job Description:

As the Technical Leader - Power Project Development & FEED, you will lead the strategic planning and initial engineering phases of power projects spanning T&D, storage and renewables sectors. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, management skills, and a deep understanding of the power sector and the T&D and renewables landscape. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess project feasibility, optimize design concepts, and prepare projects for execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the front-end engineering and design (FEED) and assessments during the development stage of T&D, storage and renewables projects.
  • Lead energy planning/ optimized dispatch/ project sizing studies depending on the resource-type using software and analytical tools.
  • Lead FEED study deliverables including project design basis and technical performance criteria.
  • Participate in discussions with the interconnecting utility and other permitting authorities.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to communicate project's objectives and drive creative engineering solutions.
  • Lead presentations, and communication for internal and external stakeholders, senior management, and permitting bodies.
  • Liaise with T&D customers, independent power producers (IPPs), generation developers, power utilities and regulatory bodies to build strong technical solutions and nurture long-term relationships.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, mentorship and support to local and national engineering teams.
  • Lead technical proposals for strategic projects through creative thinking and alternative approaches and win-strategies.
  • Act as subject matter expert in the power and energy markets.
  • Accountable for overall technical project delivery and related deliverables.
  • Project-manage early stage projects, depending on bandwidth.

Overview of certifications and job requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with focus on power systems or suitable demonstrated experience working in the power sector.
  • Master's or higher degree in engineering with a focus on power systems, energy systems, sustainable energy, or energy data sciences is advantageous.
  • 10+ years of experience in power markets, renewables, energy consulting, or related engineering projects.
  • Project Management experience or PMP certification would be an asset.
  • Experience in power system planning and related software is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills suitable for a diverse and collaborative environment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, codes, and standards pertinent to renewable energy and T&D projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a dynamic work setting.
  • Dedication to sustainability, innovation, and continuous professional development within the energy sector.
  • Willingness to travel domestically as needed.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English and French) is an asset.
