Modern Niagara is currently hiring for a Project Accountant to oversee and manage a large hospital build project in Halifax. The mission of the Project Accountant is to co-ordinate and oversee all daily accounting processes for the assigned project(s), to ensure they are carried out efficiently, effectively and within established timelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Verify & track project financials, work completion for internal and external clients
  • Audit against purchase orders, verify accuracy and oversee process and approvals
  • Take a lead and follow through with prescribed procedures
  • Accurately enter all data into the computerized business system as directed within schedule.
  • Investigate discrepancies and resolve customer's billing and supplier invoice issues.
  • Supporting our Billing Teams and Account Managers from a financial perspective
  • Maintain all business systems files as directed.
  • Monitor Spot reports to prepare invoices and work with the Project Managers to ensure billing targets are met or exceeded
  • Perform and assist with month-end duties
  • Ensuring all entries are posted correctly and according to ASPE
  • Prepare monthly analytic reports
  • Complete special projects on an ad-hoc basis, as assigned
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Related University degree (Finance, Administration or Business)
  • Must have professional an accounting designation or be in the process of completing one.
  • Understanding of the construction/service industry, including applicable accounting standards, would be an asset
  • Previous experience in a high-volume business would be an asset
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing requirements and deadlines under pressure
  • Proven ability to work independently under minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
  • Effective time management skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Conduct all inter-company dealings in a manner which promotes cooperation and aids the department in all areas.
  • Strong understanding of the General Ledger, or ability and willingness to learn
  • Maintain positive customer interactions and value the customer experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both verbally and written
  • Client focused and proven relationship building skills
