About the Organization
Lt. General Romeo Dallaire founded the Child Soldiers Initiative in 2007 and Dalhousie University,
Halifax, Nova Scotia, provided a home to the Initiative in 2010. In 2020, the Initiative became the
Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security, an international repository of expertise,
research, and advocacy to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed violence. The
Dallaire Institute is the co-developer of the 2017 Vancouver Principles on Peacekeeping and the
Prevention of the Recruitment and Use of Child Soldiers.
Job Summary
Reporting to the LACoE Deputy Director of Policy and Partnerships, the LACoE Research Project Officer supports the day-to-day operations, communications, and project activities of the Dallaire Institute's Latin American Centre of Excellence (LACoE). Critical areas of responsibility include logistics; technical support; partnership development and communications; and research and knowledge mobilization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements for LACoE activities, including (but not limited to) research activities, community engagement activities, and training.
  • Undertake activities to support the completion of monitoring, evaluation, and reporting requirements for LACoE projects (e.g., developing training evaluation reports, tracking project activities, updating relevant project racking databases, and reviewing participant feedback).
  • Produce reports on LACoE activities for various audiences (Institute staff, funders, stakeholders, the public, etc.). Reports will often need to be produced in both English and Spanish.
  • Working in collaboration with the LACoE Deputy Director of Policies and Partnership, support the partnership development practices of the LACoE. This may include (for example) the management of partner communications and MOU development.
  • Produce and/or translate additional documentation and communications materials in Spanish and English as required.
Note
Hybrid role: The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (a combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Postsecondary degree in a relevant field of study (e.g., Peace & Conflict Studies, Latin American Studies, International Development Studies, International Relations, or Political Science).
  • 2+ years of experience in administrative support, monitoring and evaluation, project management, or a related field.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish (full fluency in Spanish required).
  • Strong visual design skills and a creative mindset, with experience creating engaging and professional documents and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multicultural, multilingual, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working with Microsoft SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, word processing, and other relevant applications and software.
Assets
  • Experience in the production and management of research grant applications and budgets.
  • Experience working with security sector institutions, the media/journalists, and community groups.
  • Expertise in the use of graphic design, multi-media, and visual tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, video editing software).
  • Event planning experience.
  • Experience and/or training in gender-based analysis+ (GBA+).
  • Experience supporting projects and field-level staff remotely.
