The Opportunity

As a part of the Resource Staff Team, the Camp Glenburn Program Director will lead the planning and delivery of high-quality programs, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for all participants. This role is responsible for overseeing the coordination of staff and CIT programs, including creating structured, fun, and educational camp activities. You will work closely with other directors to ensure that camp programs are effectively organized, and you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the camp's overall culture, ensuring it remains positive, inclusive, and enriching for all staff and campers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of camper Interest Groups, Cabin Activities, and staff/CIT programs in collaboration with the Resource Staff Team.
  • Work with the Out-tripping Director, Camp Coordinator, and GAP Director to create a comprehensive weekly staff duty schedule.
  • Supervise and support 2-3 Program Assistants, helping with program planning, facilitation, debriefs, and ensuring clean-up and program flow.
  • Organize and facilitate large events, such as the Coffee House and Film Festival.
  • Ensure the safety and care of all program equipment and supplies, including storage and inventory management.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of camp-wide emergency procedures.
  • Assist in planning and implementing the training program for counseling staff.
  • Collaborate with the Camp Director and other resource staff to contribute to overall camp operations.
  • Submit a final report at the end of the season, including program outcomes and recommendations.
  • Ensure every child is treated with respect, compassion, and understanding in line with YMCA's Child Protection Practices.
  • Serve as a positive role model for all staff, CITs, and campers, demonstrating the YMCA's values through behavior, communication, and relationships.
  • Promote a peaceful, positive, and educational environment for all members of the camp community.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ongoing or completed Bachelor's Degree, Community College diploma, or similar from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in a Camp or Youth Program setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple activities and staff.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Valid driver's license and 3 years of driving experience is an asset.
  • Camp certifications such as NLS, Waterfront, Pleasure Craft Operator, or CUI Certification are considered an asset.
  • Strong work ethic, with the flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and demands.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.
  • Employment is contingent on clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Social Development Clearance Check.
