Are you passionate about Cyber Security? Are you looking to work in a state-of-the-art research facility located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, that has been purpose-built to support cyber security research for nuclear and other critical infrastructure? Can you see yourself working with industrial control systems that can have safety impacts if compromised and, therefore, are often bound by strict regulatory requirements and rigorous change controls that introduce complexities, risks and costs that are substantially higher for any modernization or modification effort? Do you have the systems experience and understanding in two domains: OT and cyber security? If you do, then this may be the role for you - apply today and be at the forefront of cyber security solution development for critical infrastructure in Canada!

What will you be doing!

  • Serving as a core member of the cyber security research group, with particular emphasis on cyber security of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems,
  • Proposing, developing, and leading technical projects to evaluate cyber security solutions using a combination of electrical, I&C, and computer engineering,
  • Preparing project proposals and work plans (activities, budget, schedule, resources) and associated project management artefacts (e.g., progress reports, final reports)
  • Supporting product development of cyber security products and services for critical infrastructure,
  • Conducting security assessments of I&C equipment using recognized standards and guidelines,
  • Developing methodologies to mitigate vulnerabilities in I&C equipment and applications (e.g., change management, vendor management, security by design),
  • Proposing new cyber security techniques and technologies and designing, developing, testing and validating these new capabilities with the goal of developing practical and innovative cyber security solutions for industrial control applications,
  • Responsible for guiding the work of junior scientists/engineers or technicians assigned to a common project, and
  • Providing presentations to stakeholders and contribute to internal reports, presentations, and technical refereed journal publications.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

      • I&C domain protocols and standards such as MODBUS and OPC,
      • Design and implementation of control system network architectures,
      • Programming PLCs, HMI SCADA systems such as Siemens, Allen Bradley and Triconex,
      • Specifying field instrumentation, PLC and SCADA hardware, and wiring design, and
      • Good familiarity with recognized industry standards and guidelines.
    • Preference will also be given to candidates with 4+ years of experience in computer systems and networks, and/or cyber security technologies:
      • Modern computing technologies (e.g., VMWare and Hyper-V HyperVisors, switch and firewall configurations, Web Servers),
      • Operating systems (e.g., Windows, Windows Server, Linux),
      • Communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL), and
      • Cyber security technologies (e.g., intrusion detection systems, forensic analysis, tools, next generation firewalls, application control, whitelisting, AV, encryption, automated auditing, analytics), and advanced persistence threats, zero day exploits, malware attack vectors and threat intelligence.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Specialized knowledge/expertise in a particular area of cyber security would be an asset (e.g., machine learning, secure system design, vulnerability assessments, wireless security).
    • Experience in aspects of the systems development lifecycle and associated tools (e.g., requirements, design, implementation, integration, test, deployment, revision control, configuration management, change control),
    • Ability to independently handle software and hardware problems: devise new approaches, apply existing criteria in new manners, and make reasoned conclusions,
    • Strong technical problem-solving skills, ability to make recommendations on technical issues, and prepare work plans with minimal supervision,
    • Ability to think abstractly and deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems and various types of clients and customers,
    • Can effectively articulate novel ideas, concepts, and proposals for new projects and ongoing work,
    • Initiative and ability to work effectively with others in a team environment,
