Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, Workforce Development, the Education and Training Coordinator will function as a member and facilitator of the Health Education (HE) team in the delivery of Indigenous cultural competency training within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).

The Education and Training Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating or co-facilitating workshops using principles of adult education and respectful group dynamics based on the establishment of a safe context for participants to move toward cultural understandings and levels of cultural competency and safety for Indigenous patients, families and communities who access services within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

As a member of the Health Education team, provides leadership and works collaboratively on various committees/working groups to further enhance the Health Education program delivery through the creation of additional workshops promoting knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, community and the historical/contemporary experiences.

Assists in ongoing workshop delivery, coordination of new workshops including research, curriculum development, marketing plan etc.; takes leadership role in coordinating and creating partnerships for working groups pertaining to workshop content delivery with various partners within the WRHA and other key stakeholders.

Represents and participates as an active member of the Health Education team as required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in adult education or workshop facilitation.
  • Previous experience in facilitating sessions on culture, racism and diversity.
  • Experience in workshop/curriculum development.
  • Experience in researching content applicable to workshop development.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment, providing input on project ideas and working as an effective member of a team.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • University degree or College diploma/certificate in Education, or Adult Education.
  • Certificate, diploma or degree in the field of facilitation/group facilitation.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle would be an asset.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to relate to and understand the diversity of the Indigenous community, historical and contemporary issues, knowledge of Indigenous customs, values, beliefs and traditions.
  • Ability to set goals and meet deadlines under pressure and with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills (report writing and presentations).
  • Ability to manage tasks and projects involving diverse organizations in the community and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and as a team member, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Preference will be given to an individual of Indigenous ancestry.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
