What will you be doing!

  • Managing, creating and reviewing emergency response planning and documentation.
  • Managing, creating, evaluating and reporting on drills/exercises.
  • Coordinating corrective actions that are identified or displayed as gaps during any emergency response exercises.
  • Managing supplies of emergency response equipment, along with coordinating with maintenance staff to ensure emergency response equipment is on a preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Coordinating preventive maintenance in the Emergency Operating Centre (EOC), purchasing equipment, maintaining operational documentation and readiness.
  • Preparing, creating and managing general emergency preparedness activities that are site specific to ensure safety and licensing requirements are met.
  • Coordinating and interfacing with groups to makes sure their emergency response requirements are met.
  • Creating, managing, maintaining, and reviewing emergency management training for CNL staff and other external emergency response agencies (Local Paramedics, Fire Departments, and Police Services).
  • Managing business targets so that set emergency response objects are met, while maintaining a cost effective and efficient approach to delivering emergency response requirements.
  • Managing records maintenance and purchases through the use of CNL approved software systems.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting on Emergency Preparedness (EmP) program "Health Metrics," to senior CNL executive staff, so that decision can be made on emergency response, customer deliverables as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Degree with three (3) years' experience preferred or Diploma or Post Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management from a recognized Post-Secondary Institution with five (5) years' of related work experience or be in possession of five to eight (5-8) years' of relevant work experience in emergency management and/or a Security or Fire program management field.
  • Experience
    • Five (5) plus years' work experience in emergency management is preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Demonstrate a "safety first" attitude by ensuring activities are conducted with CNL, public and employee safety foremost in mind.
    • Able to manage and comprehend a large range of technological and/or business issues such as radiation protection, fire, industrial hygiene, security, logistics, and communications.
    • Demonstrate strong communications skills both written and oral along with interpersonal skills with ability to interface with all levels of CNL management and staff and external customers and agencies.
    • Cognizant of and be able to interpret relevant Federal, Provincial, nuclear legislation and regulations and be able to communicate impacts from the aforementioned to the CNL Health, Safety, and Environment (HSSE) program to facilitate resolutions.
    • Possess strong planning and coordination skills along with the ability to organize information, assess issues and take action.
    • Detailed oriented with the ability to plan, organize and coordinate activities of self and others to achieve individual, department and program targets.
    • Possess problem recognition and analytical capabilities for problem solving.
    • Able to work independently "on task and on time," for deliverables.
    • Able to work effectively and maintain composure under stressful situations.
    • Demonstrate leadership and be able to manage and coordinate responses to abnormal or emergency events.
    • Emergency preparedness drill/exercise design and implementation.
    • Able to develop, and manage and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
    • Able to manage and maintain an Emergency Operations Centre.
    • Incident management systems.
    • Crisis Communication and Public Information management.
    • Critical Infrastructure Protection.
    • Business Continuity Planning.
    • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment.
    • Crisis Management and Critical Incident Stress.
    • Canadian Standards Association (CSA) N1600 General Requirements for nuclear emergency management programs.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."

Working Conditions:

  • Able to stand on your feet for extended periods of time in inclement weather.
  • Willingness to work longer or non-standard hours to facilitate emergency response requirements and training.
  • Able to work in various types of work environments, from 'high stress' to mitigating emergency and abnormal events.
  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
