About the Position:

As part of the larger Digital Team, the Officer, Digital Engagement is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and optimization of the BC SPCA's main website and digital channels (excluding social media channels). The Officer also coordinates, builds and reports back on the performance of organization-wide digital communications (currently the Anim@ls e-newsletter).

Some specific duties:

Website Administration and Optimization (45%):

  • Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the main Society website, adoption site and associated online tools. Includes liaising with internal and external developers, hosting companies and contractors to ensure digital properties are performing optimally.
  • Maintains clear and thorough documentation on website administration processes.
  • Provides strategic and technical support to BC SPCA staff for adding/editing content on the website, including maintaining documentation and offering training for new staff on BC SPCA systems.
  • Proactively raises areas for potential optimization of the website to the Senior Officer, Digital Engagement.

Analytics and Performance Set Up and Reporting (10%):

  • Uses digital marketing best practices along with data analysis and regular testing to support the success of digital campaigns.
  • Monitors performance of website assets and e-newsletters and reports regularly on results.
  • Ensures consistent use of Google Analytics and reporting metrics across teams.

General Digital Engagement Support (45%)

  • Under the guidance of the Senior Officer, Digital Engagement, works with the wider Digital Team and program staff to grow and implement an integrated strategy across (sometimes competing) digital campaigns, ensuring consistent strategy and processes.
  • Creates graphic content for digital ads, campaign websites and print materials.
  • Helps manage and oversee the Society's bank of visual images and videos, including increasing availability and use of images reflecting the diverse populations served by the BC SPCA
  • Supports the administrative needs of editorial planning, writing and editing needed for website updates and email campaigns and ensures all content is consistent with the values of the BC SPCA.
  • Ensures all work adheres to relevant legislation and organizational policies (including but not limited to: Privacy Policy, CASL, cyber security best practices, new software and user access guidelines).
  • Provides superior customer service and stewardship to supporters seeking help with BC SPCA digital properties (non-fundraising).
  • Provides back-up support to the social media team as needed during peak times and/or coverage during absences.
  • Develops and maintain relationships with industry peers and commits to continued education, learning and innovation.
  • Leads by example in professionalism and commitment to excellence.
  • Commits to making the BC SPCA a provincial not-for-profit leader in digital marketing and user experience.
  • Commits to continued education and learning as it relates to digital engagement and site administration best practices.
  • Participates in team, portfolio, unit, department and organization-wide staff meetings as required.
  • Contributes to the growth of a culture of health and safety and volunteerism.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to BC SPCA values, work-life balance, and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and reconciliation.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications you need to have:

    • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline plus 3-6 years of experience with digital engagement and site administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer.
    • Strong computer skills including strong command of the Microsoft Office Suite, comfort with basic HTML editing and CSS.
    • CMS experience required, Word Press experience strongly preferred.
    • Experience with both use and set up of Google Analytics and Google Ads accounts strongly preferred. Google Business Manager experience would be an asset.
  • Comfortable using a graphic design program and willing/able to learn others (e.g. Adobe and Canva).
  • Knowledge and experience of digital marketing and user experience best practices, trends and opportunities.
  • Comfortable working with data: establishing data points, accurate record keeping, collecting and analyzing data and using it to support initiatives, and demonstrating success, needs, or areas of concern.
  • Able to do some weekend and evening work, as necessary.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional growth and education.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, manage projects, meet priorities and work within a high-volume environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse audience of internal and external parties at all levels in a respectful manner.
  • Working knowledge of concepts of equity, diversity, inclusion and reconciliation; able to relate respectfully to a diverse audience.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft products.
  • Philosophical harmony with the mission, vision, values and strategic direction of the BC SPCA.
