Description

Assist in the coordination of activities and functions associated with discipleship and outreach programs for children, youth and young adults within the BC Division, in addition to planning, and providing oversight and coordination of summer camp programming at Camp Sunrise. Ensure that goals and objectives specified for the program are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, and funding limitations.

Hours:

  • 37.5 per week

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate, maintain, and assist in the evaluation of Salvation Army programs relevant to the children and youth of Corps and the community at large including discipleship, outreach, and regular special events throughout the city.
  • Contribute to the spiritual development of children, youth, and young adults by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviours.
  • Coordinate and assist in the leadership of children, youth, young adults, and family initiatives.
  • Provide support to Ministry Units by offering tools to connect children, youth, and young adults to corps through outreach programs and relationship building.
  • Assist Ministry Units to recruit, train, and retain volunteer leaders and front-line volunteers for children and youth programs and facilitate opportunities for further training.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, coaching, and direction to children and youth volunteers and youth workers, including the coordination of an annual youth worker weekend
  • Promote and resource Ministry Units with relevant children and youth programming and resources.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Territorial Youth Strategy - @theReady Framework - across the BC Division, including the development of resources and training to assist Ministry Units in successfully implementing the Territorial Youth Strategy.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate leadership development programs for those involved in youth and young adult leadership, specifically leading Living Sacrifice (young adult discipleship program)
  • Interact and liaise with Ministry Unit leaders - corps leaders and youth workers - to assist them in achieving program objectives for children and youth and their families.
  • Provide opportunities for leadership development for youth.
  • Maintain accurate and organized written records and logs of activities and statistical information.
  • Give direction for the development and compilation of written and online communications and promotional literature for children, youth and young adult programs and events.
  • Oversee summer camping program at Camp Sunrise, including working with seasonal program and cabin leading staff to ensure effective programming for overnight summer camp
  • Develop and oversee a coordinated Divisional process ensuring volunteer screening protocols for working with children and youth are being adhered to by local corps
  • Perform other position-related duties as required.

Financial and Material Management:

  • Purchasing responsibility for material resources related to Divisional children, youth and young adult events and programs
  • Provide technical assistance, advice in the development of annual budgets (Divisional and Camp Sunrise program), as well as to monitor the budget to ensure good stewardship of resources.
  • Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of budgeted resources.
  • May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.
  • Gives input into annual budget or revenue projections related to program expenses for Camp Sunrise and the BC Youth Department.
  • Responsible for ensuring programs and events are within allocated budgets

Managerial/Technical Leadership Responsibility:

  • Reports directly to: The Divisional Youth Secretary and the Divisional Camping Ministries Director for Camp Sunrise summer camping season
  • Gives oversight to Regional Youth Workers (Divisional Program Team), for Divisional and Regional events. Workflow coordinator for Divisional and Regional children and youth events.
  • Oversees Camp Sunrise program staff and cabin leading staff for the summer camping season

Working Conditions:

  • Working at Divisional Headquarters (Primary)
  • Required to live on-site at Camp Sunrise from mid-May until end of August
  • Frequent travel will be involved, including travel to each Region once a year
  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in children or youth ministry, Biblical studies, theological training, pastoral ministry or equivalent
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of prior related experience working with and developing, coordinating, assessing, and providing programs for children and/or youth.
  • Full (class 5) driver's license is required
