Description

The Next Step Program Supervisor gives overall leadership for the Next Step Program, reporting to the Program Manager. The Next Step Program Supervisor provides a safe and secure environment for the program participants/clients and provides practical support to re-integrate them into the community while they address issues related to substance use and mental health concerns. The Next Step Program Supervisor plans and delivers various programs, including the Pathway of Hope Program, to meet program participant/client's needs and to support them in continuing their sobriety and finding meaningful employment.

Hours:

  • 25 - 30 hours/week, varied schedule, including weekend

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management:

  • Develop and update policies and procedures.
  • Manage the budget, rent collection, and petty cash.
  • Evaluate the program using client feedback.
  • Ensure legal, contractual, and accreditation compliance.
  • Monitor residents' recovery progress and adherence to program expectations.
  • Provide counseling and support, particularly for drug and alcohol issues.
  • Coordinate holistic services for residents via the Pathway of Hope Program.
  • Lead life skills training and educational groups.
  • Advocate for clients and serve as a positive role model.
  • Liaise with external agencies (e.g., welfare, police).
  • Oversee admissions, orientations, and discharges.
  • Collaborate with the Chaplain for spiritual support.

Administrative & Program Participant Support:

  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures for housing programs.
  • Maintain program participant files and documentation per accreditation and funder requirements.
  • Address inquiries, complaints, and incidents involving program participants and staff.
  • Conduct wellness checks and maintain safety protocols.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with program participants, staff, and community partners.
  • Submit reports and data on time.
  • Support program participants in moving in and maintaining their living space.
  • Assist program participants with basic needs (food, hygiene) and safety.
  • Work with supervisors on referrals, assessments, and support plans.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with program participants, assess needs, and deliver skill-building workshops.
  • Connect program participants with community services and accompany them to appointments.
  • Organize social and community-building activities.
  • Ensure program participant documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Participate in evaluations and follow safety procedures.
  • Liaise with case management teams and emergency services.
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and mitigate risks for staff and program participants.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A 2-year social work program completion
  • At least 2 years of experience in supportive housing, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of homelessness, 12 step programs, Celebrate Recovery, trauma-informed care, and community agencies.
  • Experience in advocacy, service coordination, and crisis management.

Required Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage diverse relationships and work with external partners.
  • Understanding of anti-oppressive practices and trauma-informed approaches.

The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, frequently interacting with clients, attentive listening and observation of body language, and moderate attention when recording information.

  • Non-Violent Crisis Training is an asset.

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Immunization for Hepatitis B
  • Vaccination against Tuberculosis

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
