The incumbent will lead various projects and new equipment installation to be at a high level of quality, on time, and on budget. The Project Engineer will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, “Can Do” attitude and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and is also responsible to be out in the plant, identify and follow through on improvements for day-to-day operations.

The successful applicant will also work with corporate engineering group on various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage capital projects from preliminary discussions to installation and commissioning. Including:
    • Scope definition
    • Consultant management
    • Equipment specifications
    • Budget estimation & preparing tender packages.
    • Drawing review & schedule development
    • Procurement & Contractor supervision
    • Commissioning and follow-up
  • Manage information exchange between operations, maintenance, engineering, and vendors for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure that projects are on time and budget.
  • Interact with various departments that are impacted by plant to ensure the best solution and design is being engineered.
  • Ensure various options are researched and reviewed for equipment, processes etc.
  • Determine how automation can be included in the project.
  • Recommend equipment for purchase.
  • Conduct meetings and coordinate communication between team members.
  • Safety of equipment design and of the working team.
  • Tracking of project details to ensure milestones and targets are met.
  • Take project lead of power distribution, automation, controls, instrumentation, networking, and other electrical works.
  • Provide technical support to maintain existing electrical infrastructure.
  • Help troubleshoot issues with electrical systems such as power distribution, motor controls, and PLCs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience.
  • Exposure to a food operating plant environment would be an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of quality and timeline expectations from all work streams
  • Ability to take action to resolve issues that may arise.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage conflict and build teams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD would be an asset.
  • A proven track record of being pro-active and taking initiative.
  • Knowledge of the following codes and standards would be an asset: Safeguarding of Machinery, Occupational Health and Safety, Lock Out & Tag Out, Confined Space Awareness, and Working from Heights.
  • General Awareness of the Canadian Electrical Code and industrial best practices is an asset.
