About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join the Canadian Thermal Convention Heavy Oil (CTCHO) asset team. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, on-budget, on-schedule, and high-quality delivery of projects, managing all phases from initial scoping and detailed design through construction and commissioning, while adhering to Cenovus's established project execution processes. The Senior Project Engineer will act as a facilitator of change through the Management of Change (MOC) Process, running diverse scopes ranging from feasibility studies to detailed engineering completed by third-party contractors. Projects support operations, maintenance, turnaround planning, reliability, integrity, major projects, subsurface optimization, process engineering, and production engineering.

What you'll do:

  • Lead Engineering and Procurement activities using third-party external Engineering Companies, through all aspects of multiple simultaneous projects with competing priorities in various execution phases (asset development, sustaining maintenance capital, reliability improvements, process efficiency, asset restoration, and opportunity expansions)

  • Ensure the application of Process Safety Management (PSM) expectations, including process safety reviews and hazard analysis, by meeting Cenovus Operating Integrity Management System (COIMS) expectations

  • Responsible for project budgets, schedule, and quality; work with Project Controls to develop cost estimates and forecast costs to manage project budgets

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Management (SCM) to develop contracting strategy, plan, bid, evaluate, and award engineering and fabrication, as well as work with environmental and regulatory teams to ensure permitting compliance

  • Support Construction and Commissioning Teams in execution plans, providing technical support to Construction Team, contractors, and Engineering companies, and solving complex project execution issues

  • Deliver project management accountability on projects with budgets from $5MM to $15MM annually, identifying cost and schedule reduction initiatives in all aspects of project execution (design & engineering, procurement & contracting, construction, commissioning, and start-up)

  • Mentor and participate in the development of Project Engineering technical personnel, promoting Cenovus values

  • Travel may be required to multiple sites to support project activities

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Licensed Professional Engineer registered with APEGA or APEGS, with minimum 8 years of experience working as a Project Engineer / Project Manager on Oil & Gas Facility Projects

  • Extensive knowledge of applicable ASME codes and standards for design, fabrication, and construction of Oil & Gas Facility Projects

  • Consistent track record of managing both external collaborators such as Engineering contractors & Vendors, and internal collaborators such as regulatory, land, and SCM

  • Good understanding of project controls systems and tools
