ABOUT THE ROLE
The Project Manager, Business Integration plays a pivotal role in seamlessly incorporating new utility assets—whether through construction or acquisition—and strategic projects into TransAlta's existing operational framework, encompassing governance, people, processes, contracts, and technology.
This role is accountable for defining the scope, budget, and schedule for Business Integration activities within the broader Project Development Lifecycle. The Project Manager will develop and execute a comprehensive Project Integration Plan, ensuring a successful transition and handoff to relevant business workstreams. Key responsibilities include collaborating with and facilitating alignment across multiple business workstreams while partnering with cross-functional leadership teams. Success in this role requires driving accountability, taking ownership of results, and championing continuous improvement in integration, execution, and handoffs. Strong communication, conflict resolution, and diplomacy skills are essential, as the Project Manager will provide status updates and reporting across all organizational levels.
This role is based in our new head office in Downtown Calgary.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Guide integration projects through the established integration framework, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Develop the Integration Project Charter to define project scope, objectives, and key stakeholders.
Create and maintain the Project Integration Plan, incorporating all Business Workstreams' plans and the overarching construction plan.
Collaborate with Business Workstreams to develop accurate cost estimates and resource requirements
Oversee and monitor the execution of the Project Integration Plan, ensuring milestones are met effectively.
Manage interdependencies within the Project Integration Plan to ensure seamless coordination between workstreams.
Track and report progress on key metrics, including budget, schedule, safety, and quality, to stakeholders.
Engage with development, construction, and operations teams, providing regular updates to meet deadlines and contractual obligations.
Proactively address and resolve issues as they arise, maintaining project momentum.
Identify, mitigate, and manage risks, maintaining a regularly updated Risk Log.
Lead project closeout activities, including the handoff process and documenting lessons learned for future improvements.
Drive continuous improvement by challenging the status quo and streamlining processes.
Undertake additional responsibilities as required to support project success.
Travel to sites may be required as part of project oversight.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
5+ years of experience demonstrating cross-functional awareness and successfully delivering transformational projects.
Broad multi-disciplinary expertise gained through diverse work experiences in areas such as Accounting, Commercial, Engineering, Finance, IT, Maintenance, and Operations.
PMP designation or a commitment to achieving it.
Strong business acumen, with a proven ability to navigate complex organizational environments.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, combined with proficiency in productivity tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and SharePoint.
Skilled in developing and delivering impactful presentations to audiences at all organizational levels.
Proven ability to lead through influence, fostering collaboration and driving outcomes across teams.
Expertise in facilitating group meetings and workshops, with the ability to adapt communication styles to engage diverse audiences effectively.
Nice to Haves
The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:
Post-secondary education in fields such as Accounting, Administration, Business, Commercial, Engineering, Finance, IT, Maintenance, Operations, or Sciences, or relevant professional designations are considered an asset
Strong contract comprehension skills
Experience in Asset or Business Integration projects
Familiarity with Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and/or Divestitures
Hands-on experience with Joint Ventures
Background in Operations and/or Maintenance
Expertise in Change Management, including guidance and driving adoption
Experience with ERP migrations
Knowledge of IT/OT systems and their integration.
