The Opportunity

The Power and Energy Solutions (PES) Engineering team at TC Energy is currently seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our team out of our head office in Calgary, AB.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager this position is part of a project and multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing project and engineering support in the development and execution of the major project and maintenance capital programs.

This position will work closely with leadership in our Commercial and Operation groups to progress the PES project portfolio. You will be exposed to TC Energy's entire portfolio of energy assets and projects throughout Canada and the USA.

What you'll do

  • Oversee project development activities for multi-scale projects, supporting throughout the planning, design, risk assessment and project execution phases.
  • Work with an integrated set of stakeholders within Engineers, Operations, Commercial and Project Services to develop projects for the PES project and asset portfolios.
  • Identify, scope, estimate and engineer 'break fix' projects to repair failed systems and/or major equipment.
  • Develop project budgets and schedules throughout all stages of a project's lifecycle.
  • Follow and ensure compliance with TC Energy's Project Delivery System (PDS) and Practice of Engineering.
  • Interact with internal technical stakeholders and external engineering firms to evaluate and approve design packages.
  • Engage equipment and service suppliers to find design solutions to project and operational problems.
  • Support project MOCs via PHA facilitation, design reviews, stage gate reviews and PSSR support.
  • Provide technical support for Operations, Safety and Engineering regarding asset integrity, process safety and risk management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary Degree in Engineering with a Process, Mechanical or Electrical discipline-focus.
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing.
  • 6-10 years of relevant, progressive energy industry experience, with a focus on power generation.
  • Experience in development, design, commissioning, start-up and operation of power generation and gas storage facilities.
  • Proven ability to develop project and engineering deliverables through all stages of a project's lifecycle.
  • Understand projects dynamics to facilitate, manage and direct group decision making effectively to progress projects.
  • Experience in Management of Change processes and tools for evaluation practices.
  • History of providing sound engineering to determine cost-effective solutions for facility issues and enhancement projects.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at various stages of development.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, standards and practices relevant to process design and safety (e.g. CSA, ASME B31, API, NFPA, ANSI, etc.) and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-disciplinary understanding of project design and facility operation.
  • Experience with risk scenario development techniques, including assignment of probabilities and consequences.
  • Experience with operating companies' owner user programs for pressure piping systems, electrical system and major, critical equipment.
  • Experience in asset life cycle management, system reliability and Operations.

This position requires candidates to:

  • Travel with overnight stays away from home (estimated up to 20% of work schedule during peak work periods).
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Travel to field sites approximately 20% of the time.
