About the Opportunity

The Emergency Management Specialist provides governance, assurance, and support to Gibson Energy regarding Emergency Management (EM), and Business Continuity (BC). This is achieved through a thorough and ongoing assessment of the effectiveness of the EM and BC programs.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Ensure Gibson meets all regulatory requirements related to EM and BC and is positioned to effectively prevent, mitigate, respond, and recover from all emergencies.
  • Maintain, and communicate programs, processes, services, and technology to ensure the EM, and BC strategies and risks are appropriately managed.
  • Accountable for continuously improving EM, and BC governance to ensure compliance requirements are understood and implemented.
  • Oversee technical review of EM, and BC plans, including the negotiation of mutual aid agreements where required.
  • Ensure appropriate response structures and processes are in place to enable an effective response to any emergency.
  • Guide and develop employees and responders by enabling internal and external training requirements.
  • Ensure tabletop and mock exercises are scheduled to confirm that EM, and BC programs are achieving desired intent.
  • Ensure business impact analysis sessions are scheduled to identify critical business functions and key dependencies, determine Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and establish strategies for business function recovery for the organization.
  • Analyze data and makes recommendations to leadership to improve EM, and BC performance.
  • Interact with regulators and industry partners on topics related to EM, and BC.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) through participation in all applicable EHS programs and ensures safe operation and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • 7 to 10 years of experience with emergency management and business continuity.
  • Post-secondary qualification/designation in Emergency Management and supporting disciplines (e.g., business continuity, disaster management, etc.).
  • Extensive knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Demonstrated ability to foster strong relationships with leadership and external subject matter experts.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements related to EM and BC and to advise the corporation on best practices.
  • Experience with planning, scheduling, and leading projects related to the improvement of EM, and BC.
  • Experience with performing assurance activities to confirm effective application of EM, and BC practices.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Previous employment experience with regulatory/ response planning capacity with experience in some, or all, of the following areas will be considered an asset:
    • Environmental Emergency (E2) Plans (ECCC)
    • Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP)(TC)
    • Spill Preventions and Contingency Plans (BCMOE)
    • Hurricane Response Plans
  • Exhibits intermediate to advanced computer skills and associated business and industry software.

Working Conditions

  • Majority of the work is performed in an office environment.
  • Travel to field locations required periodically.
  • Working in outdoor conditions may be required.
